Maxence Barouh is a member of the French national team in wild water. The young but experienced racer entered this season with high ambitions. From the first world cup in the Bosnian Banja Luka, he won a silver place in a long descent. Just before the start, he chose a different type of boat than the one he normally races on. Instead of Sicario, he raced on the new Wakatwo. But he succeeded - the change brought him a deserved medal.

LIPNO DAM WILD WATER RACES 2020
The most beautiful, most difficult, for someone the most favored track in the Czech Republic is the Lipno dam. And there would definitely be a lot of other BEST. On the weekend of August 29 and 30, 2020, fights for the titles of champions of the Czech Republic in slalom and downriver took place under the Lipno dam. The best downriver paddlers and slalom paddlers met in a really challenging wild water.
The race under the Lipno dam takes place only once a year, when part of the Lipno dam is drained and the mass of water creates a wild race track. The program is always very busy, both in downriver and slalom.
Let's look back at the weekend race in white water paddling. The Czech sprint championship took place on Saturday, and a long downriver race on Sunday.
Saturday's sprint races lead through a challenging section, every competitor is very familiar with terms such as "Kobylí hlava", "Železňák" and knows that these places can train even very experienced racers. The water is changeable here and it is never possible to plan what kind of wave will come, or where a stone is hidden under the mass of water. It is a symbiosis of adrenaline, natural forces, unreal and unique atmosphere. Spectators on the shore have the opportunity to observe new young promising paddlers, but also the Czech top paddlers. The race was opened by single canoeists. Ondřej Rolenc (Hawk) finished for the title, Vladimír Slatina became the vice-champion and Marek Rygl (Hawk) took third place.
Other categories were kayakers, Barbora Dimovová (Wini) won the title of Czech champion, Klára Hricová (Tonga) took second place and Marie Němcová (Cayenne) closed the three best kayakers.
The overall ranking of kayakers was occupied by the competitor from Slovenia, Nejc Žnidarčič, but his great performance could not affect the championship in any way.
Karel Slepica (Wakatwo) from Olomouc won the title, Adam Satke (Cayenne) won second place and Voltěch Matějíček (Sicario Light) won third place.
Marie Němcová won gold in the C1 women's category, Zuzana Dziadková won the title in the multi-champion and Tereza Kratochvílová won third place.
The last sprint category was the doublekanoists. There was no surprise here.
The first place was again taken by the crew Petr Veselý and Marek Rygl (Sparrow), the second place by Daniel Suchánek and Ondřej Rolenc, the third by Michal Šrámek and Lukáš Tomek (Zepellin).
Sunday's long downriver races took place in more difficult conditions than on Saturday, the weather was completely unfavorable to the competitors. The track of the long downriver is divided into 4 sections - slalom track, sprint section, ponds and Loučovské papírny. The same names appeared again on the podium as after Saturday's sprints, only in different orders.
In the Category C1 men Marek Rygl (Hawk) won first place, Ondřej Rolenc (Hawk) second and Vladimír Slanina third. Barbora Dimovová (Wini) again won the title of champion of the Czech Republic in the women's K1 category, the second place was a big surprise, it was won by young Kristina Novosadová (Wini) and the third by Zuzana Dziadková (Sicario Light).
Adam Satke (Cayenne) showed his great form among kayakers and takes the title of Champion of the Czech Republic to Brno, Karel Slepica (Wakatwo) finished second and the experienced Kamil Mrůzek (Wakatwo) won the bronze medal.
Women's C1 category remains unchanged and, as on Saturday, Marie Němcová took the gold, Zuzana Dziadková the silver and Tereza Kratochvílová the bronze.
The last category of Sunday's long downriver was the doublekanoists.
Daniel Suchánek and Ondřej Rolenc won the title, the vice-champions were Petr Veselý and Marek Rygl (Sparrow), the third place was taken by the crew of Martin Novák and Antonín Haleš (Sparrow).
We asked the best of the best "What did this year's races in the Lipno dam mean to you?"
Barbora Dimovová: „ I always enjoy the races in the Lipno damn pretty much. This year, however, I managed to get 2 wins with a wini boat ... (is it a coincidence?)"
Marek Rygel: „I was really looking forward to this year's Lipno. It is my favorite track and most importantly - one weekend and 2 championship races. Due to the corona break, I was preparing for the Championships as the peak of the season and in the last months the goal was clear - to turn the 4 starts into at least 3 national titles. The dream scenario just didn't work out. For the sixth time in a row, Petr Veselý and I got the title of Czech Champions in the sprint on C2 - it was a ride from the realm of dreams - and we also won bronze on C1 with a loss of only 0.5 s. After 10 years, I won gold again in the classics on the single and again tight silver on the C2. "
Adam Satke: "I'm always looking forward to Lipno and it was the same this year. And because this year´s championship was both in the sprint and in the long downriver, the motivation was even greater. Saturday belonged to the sprint, where I was quite successful in terms of the result, but I was not completely satisfied with the rides, because I did not manage to set the track that I trained. And so championship jersey in the sprint deservedly heads to Olomouc thanks to Karel Slepica.
Sunday then belonged to a long downriver. And I really didn't want to miss this opportunity to get a championship jersey. I really put everything into the race, which paid off in the end, and after a year I managed to get the title in a long downriver. I was really happy with the ride. Overall, I managed all the challenging passages, even on the sprint track I had a much better trail than in Saturday's sprint. Then came the quieter part, where my boat really slipped and I also managed to reach Kamil Mrůzek. Fortunately, he freed the track for me without any problems and the final rapids in Loučovice were already a welcome end to this demanding race.
So a very successful weekend for me and I'm already looking forward to the next races.
4 starts, 2 titles of Champion of the Czech Republic, 1 silver, 1 bronze "
Karel Slepica: "The races in Lipno are, like every year, a great experience for me, and this year I spiced it up with the title of champion of the Czech republic in sprint and vice-champion of the republic in the classic long downriver."
The weekend race was not only a show of famous names of the Czech white water convention, but also an exhibition of Kickthewaves boats. The KicktheWaves brand has once again shown that it belongs to the most demanding terrains on wild water, and that the best results are really achieved on KTW boats.
