Maxence Barouh is a member of the French national team in wild water. The young but experienced racer entered this season with high ambitions. From the first world cup in the Bosnian Banja Luka, he won a silver place in a long descent. Just before the start, he chose a different type of boat than the one he normally races on. Instead of Sicario, he raced on the new Wakatwo. But he succeeded - the change brought him a deserved medal.

The team sprint closed the European Championship in Saber, Spain. The second half of the championship took place on the spritn channel. On Friday (13.08) were the first and second qualifying races in all categories. The next day (14.08) the finals took place in the morning and at the end the team race took place.
"The sprint track is beautiful. It's not hard, it's not wild and it's not dangerous. This track will perfectly test the technique and readiness of each competitor," says the Italian coach Luca Cardinali.
French competitor Pauline Freslon did well among the kayakers. She showed great form in the first qualifying race and confirmed her role as the favorite in the final. With a time of 0:42.82, she finished European champion for her first individual title. The Czech national team member Barbora Dimovová (Wini) finished just behind Pauline. After an unsuccessful race in a long distance, she improved her reputation with her final race and takes the silver medal from the championship. Lisa Vinet (Sicario Light) followed the medal position. The French competitor added bronze from the sprint to the individual silver medal from the long downhill.
"As I wanted I became to the fights and I got medal. Before the start, I said to myself that I feel good and I want to put my energy into this race. That worked. At the end of the sprint track, I was more right than I imagined, but I am incredibly satisfied with the result," added silver Dimovová.
Tight fights took place in competition with kayakers. The fifteen best European sprinters took part in the start of Saturday's final. The best performance was performed by the Belgian representative Maxime Richard, who became the European champion after a thrilling final. After qualifying, he finished second. Only a Slovenian legend, Nejc Žnidarčič, was able to overcome him. However, he made a mistake in the final and for the first time since 2007, he did not take a medal position, because he finished fourth.
French racer Maxance Barouh finished second. He turned his four starts into four medals. He exchanged the Wakatwo for a Sicario. The exchange was a good idea and the French rider could rejoice in the most successful championship of his life. Slovenian racer Anže Urankar won the bronze medal.
"It's been two days since winning my first individual title at the European long distance Championships. I am incredibly proud of the result I have achieved today. It was a tight fight, but I don't think I could have done more. I changed Wakatwo for Sicario. I got used to the different character of the boat and the paddle, but in the final everything was perfect. I'm so happy to be on stage one more time. I leave the championship completely satisfied," comments Maxence Barouh on his successes.
The first place among the single canoeists was taken by the French competitor Elsa Gaubert. The competitor Cecilia Panato (Hawk) finished for silver and the bronze medal goes to France again, thanks to Helene Raguenes (Limax).
"I was not very happy with the sprint channel. I prefer harder sprint courses. Here it is quite flat. In the final I made a good ride. At the end, I was a little unsure, and I didn't cut the last turn perfectly. I don't think it was a fundamental mistake and the result corresponds to the performance, "says Helen Raguenes. "In a week we are leaving for the European Championships in Solkan and in September we will have the World Championships in Bratislava. I will do everything to get there good rides and move a little further again!" Adds Raguenes.
At the end of the championship, a team sprint race took place. Four starts and three titles heading to France. In the most charged category of kayakers, the Slovenian crew consisting of Nejc Žnidarčič - Anže Urankar - Simon Oven won. They mastered the category of kayakers in French, composed of Lisa Vinet - Pauline Freslon - Phenicia Dupras. Additional gold was added to the French collection by single canoeists, this time thanks to Quentin Dazeur, Charles Ferrion and Etienne Klatt. The program of the European Championship was closed by the category of deblkanoists, which was again dominated by the French.
The European Championship is over. Kick the Waves ships won a total of eleven individual medals. We created current Reels from the whole championship, which you can look at on our Facebook or Instagram @kickthewaves!!!
