Maxence Barouh is a member of the French national team in wild water. The young but experienced racer entered this season with high ambitions. From the first world cup in the Bosnian Banja Luka, he won a silver place in a long descent. Just before the start, he chose a different type of boat than the one he normally races on. Instead of Sicario, he raced on the new Wakatwo. But he succeeded - the change brought him a deserved medal.

France. A state that educates many successful kayakers who are among the absolute world leaders. For us, French racers are rivals on the water and friends in normal life. We always have something to learn from each other. Top competitors pay attention to the choice of boat. Adam Satke, Martina Satková and Gabriela Satková. Who wouldn't know them? Three resounding names that almost every racer knows. Although they grew up together in Brno, their paths parted ways. Although everyone trains in a different city, they are still united by a passion for canoeing, discipline and determination. At the moment, all three have met at the championship in Bratislava, where they will represent the Czech colors.
"The canal in Bratislava is very hard. Technically, it's definitely one of the more challenging courses, but I personally like it. There will be place for mistakes, but the Czech team has a lot of experienced competitors and we can definitely benefit a lot from that," says the oldest of the siblings, Adam Satke, who made a national jersey in the K1 category in the wild water. (CAYENNE)
Adam is one of the absolute Czech leaders. This year he represented the Czech Republic at the European Championships in Spain. Now he has the second peak ahead of him, which is the world sprint championship in Bartislava. He is the only one in the family dedicated to wild water and for several years he has preferred boats from Kick the waves, specifically the Cayenne type.
The most universal competitor, not only of the family, but of the entire championship, is Martina Satková. The world-successful competitor has a national place in three different disciplines. This year she got a jersey in the slalom senior national team. Her numerous successes secured her a place in the national team in wild water. (SICARIO LIGHT - K1, HAWK - C1). Among other things, at the last championship she won the title in the newly created discipline of extreme slalom, which secured her the third national ticket.
"I like the channel in Bratislava. It is redesigned and is clearly heavier. The water in it is playful and I really enjoyed the training. On the other hand, I have to say that it is a very physically hard course and the water in the canal is constantly changing and pulsating a lot. In any ride, you can't be sure that your water will be ok, but that is the sport on wild water,“ describes Martina Satková.
Martin can expect a slalom race in C1, a sprint race in K1 and C1 and, last but not least, extreme slalom. "I have once competed in several disciplines, specifically in 2016 at the World Cup in Pau. As part of the national championship, I also took an extra place in extreme slalom, so this combination of three categories is such a small premiere," adds Martina. "We have a given line on wild water . Even if you know exactly where to go, you rarely succeed here. As for slalom, I'm wondering what track they will build. To make it equally" fair "for all competitors.“
Anti-epidemiological measures are strictly observed at this championship. Competitors stay in so-called bubbles and no one can enter this imaginary bubble. "The originality of this championship is that all competitors, from all states and from all disciplines, live in the same hotel. The whole world actually lives together. Therefore, I can be with both slalom and wild water teams, and even with my whole family," Martina describes.
"I'm looking forward to the championship. It's great to meet both sisters at one championship. I'm looking forward to seeing how they race and we will support each other," comments Adam. "Already in 2017, we competed in one international championship together. It was the Junior World Championships in wild water. At that time, we were all still competing in the same discipline. It's a little different today, but it's even better that we can race together. "
The youngest of the siblings, Gabriela Satková, specializes purely in slalom. Many world successes have been added to her account in recent years. This year, she again made the slalom senior national team, which was also nominated by her older sister Martina.
"The channel is specific in that it is very difficult. You will hardly find a section with calm water here. It suits me, because I like hard courses, but it's also a big challenge for me," describes Gabriela.
"I think that combining slalom and downhill at one championship is a great idea. It means a lot to me. I consider the biggest advantage to be that I can see my older brother, because it doesn't happen to us much," adds Gabriela proudly. "It simply came to my notice then. We can watch the sprinters and they can follow us. We can support each other together. Having a brother and sister by your side here is very special to me. We will support each other as one big family and that means a lot to me."
"I'm really looking forward to the whole championship and I'm curious how it will all go. Participating in one championship on slalom and wild water was one of my life dreams. It's a big challenge for me and I'm glad to see the whole team, which will be together again after two years. I hope that, as the Czech Republic, we will bring as much success as possible!” concludes Martina Satková with positive words.
